Okay, I think I got it then.

Couple years back, I was fighting Eggman. Standard stuff, no big deal. He comes at me with this huge robot, he catches me off guard. But I use the emeralds to power myself up. So he's running away, I'm destroying all his ships and stuff, I'm pretty sure I've got this one in the bag, so I got a little cocky once I caught him.

Big mistake. Turns out, he was expecting me to use the emeralds. Everything he was doing that time? His robots, his ships, EVERYTHING. It was just to get me to use the emeralds. He traps me in this chamber thing, drains the emeralds outta me, and uses them to power up this laser he has attached to a satellite that he fires at the Earth. Screws up the Earth, releases a Dark God trapped in the core. Basically, the world almost got destroyed like three times in the space of a couple days 'cause I got a little bit too full'a myself when I was chasing him down.

It's cool though. God got sealed, Earth got fixed, Eggman took a free trip into the stratosphere.
