Having been shown the error of his ways, Fenris is (in his own way) eager to make amends. Build bridges, dole out olive branches- the whole nine yards. Fenris is taken aback simply because Flynn is genuinely someone who is patient and benevolent in their position of power- while experience has always told the elf this was not just impossible, but foolish to think otherwise. This complete 180 is something he would openly call fascinating, when what he really means is that he finds it welcoming.

Fenris wouldn't say he trusts Flynn- not yet, but he can't deny that the man is someone well worth giving a chance to. Still displaced on the station, he's grateful to call a man like Flynn his teacher.

But just don't tell anyone he said that...
