DARK FUTURE MEME
[We know who it is we want. We have a collective mind.
We don't miss a single step. We're always right behind.
We know we serve someone else. We have swallowed our pride.
We march to this tune of loss. We take this in our stride.]

Ten years later, humanity and the synthetic life on the station are at odds
Hypatia has inducted as many citizens of Sacrosanct into a private military and launched
an all-out war against organic life and the people of Asphodel.
Some were kept on the station as captives, some escaped down planet-side
to become part of the resistance, and countless others were re-purposed into
Hypatia's willing slaves.

Where will you be?

How this works:
-If you are synthetic or part-synthetic, OR if you have special armor (Looking at you, Spartans, Troncast, EVERY ROBOT EVER) you are a target for re-purpose.
You can still have escaped down to the planet, but she'll be after you. Going to the station is dangerous, once you enter her wide-area-network you are at risk of being hacked
-If you are fully organic, you are either dead, kept prisoner and made to work on the station, or part of the resistance on Asphodel.
-Anything in-between? You decide. Be creative with this.
-Fill out the form below to give us an idea of what your character is up to, what happened to them etc. Thread with each other! RP it out!
-Also, bring in your extra journals! There won't be the same people on the station ten years from now! If you're planning to app someone, or just have something interesting lying around, toss them in!

THANE KRIOS

[identity profile] eighttotwelve.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Thane Krios
Current location: Asphodel
Current Physical Appearance: Thane doesn't look too much different. Different clothing (http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/3/30014/1308413-alternate_appearance_03_o_super.jpg), minus the sunglasses.
Summary: Once upon a time, Thane's organs were removed by SHODAN and Motoko; they were replaced with mechanical ones. We all know this story; it's in-game canon. However, Hypatia saw a possibility; with the most deadly assassin in the galaxy under her control, Thane would be an excellent agent. As such, she tormented him and attempted to break him in by occasionally turning off his lungs or heart for a few seconds and generally causing him pain through his mechanical organs. Between this and the constant hallucinations of his dead wife and other Marker shenanigans, it was very trying. Eventually, Skyfire had to carry Thane out from Sacrosanct and take him to Asphodel so he wouldn't suffer any longer, despite Thane's protests. Since then, Thane has been actively working at Asphodel, shooting down any threats with keen precision. On occasion, Hypatia's signal breaks through and causes him internal pain, but this only lasts a few seconds at a time.

Thane in general is far more cold, detached, and projects himself to appear indifferent. He wants to do right by this world and destroy Hypatia, but he finds holding most things and people at arm's length would be the best method. If you have been repurposed by Hypatia, chances are Thane has or is going to shoot you.

YEEHAW

There is only so much practice can gain him. He remembers how to move perfectly. The steps, the care taken. What he's been taught, what he's learned now.

Until he's out there, shooting down the faces of who had once been allies, it matters little to him.

The drell follows the forms of many. Smoothly, he transitions, from the arts he'd learned in his childhood, tactical practices of the turians, what he'd learned from practicing with Anon those years ago--

Then he stops. Slowly, he sits, folding his hands together.

Then turns his head.

"Skyfire," he says impersonally, politely.

Thane had tried. And honestly, some days, he wishes he'd been able to end Skyfire's suffering. He's a shell of who he was. It's painful for him. For... both of them.

"I prefer not to," Thane responds, his tone having a slight edge. "The more you observe, the more you learn something new. For both our sakes, it's best if you do not learn much from me."

The unspoken possibility that one day, possibly, if Hypatia wins over Skyfire again...

"What can I do for you?"

"As much peace as I am able to find," Thane responds truthfully. "It was easier on the Normandy, I admit; watching the engine was beautiful. It was unlike any other ship. Here, I stare at dusty walls, pray the the gods, and beg for forgiveness."

The drell's hands fold together. "For you, it would involve breathing, and thinking of nothing. Absolutely nothing. To release your muscles. I am uncertain what else you can learn by simply watching me."

"Tai-Chi. The drell have the alanor'ha, which is a similar idea. To accept the connection of body and soul, through prayers to Amonkira. To follow his steps, as his chosen. I have also practiced Tai-Chi and other forms."

A pause, then he adds a bit wryly, more true to himself, "Then there's always the shooting range, if none of that works to quell me."

Thane has a lot of pent up aggression. Despite his training, it's hard to ignore it.

"If you wish to follow, then so be it. I will attempt to pace myself, for your sake."

Grace is not exactly the first thing Thane thinks of when it comes to Skyfire -- not on the ground, at least. Still, as far as following the art goes, the former shuttle is. Exceptional.

So he changes it up. Not quite following the path he should.

Thane touches his own nose, curious to see if Skyfire would follow that too.

At some point, Tali has become sure her "checkups" on Thane had completely ceased to surprise him, if they ever had in the first place. Part of her sort of preferred it that way, it made it a little bit easier to broach the subject. There was no inherent suspicion in her requests to check the status of his mechanical organs, as there was with others; for her at least, it was impossible to go through something like they did when they passed through the Omega 4 Relay and not completely trust one another.

She was aware, if only vaguely, of what Hypatia had done and continued to do to Thane through his synthetic organs; the idea of turning someone's own body against them like that turned her stomach, so in her way, she wanted to try and stop it. Sometimes, she offered to set his equipment up with firewalls that would block Hypatia's signal, but even if he did accept them, it wasn't like something she programmed would outwit an AI of Hypatia's caliber forever. It proved to be quite vexing.

"Thane," she said crisply as she approached, her omnitool already out.

The trust in her is just as much as he would place into Garrus; they are both reliable and utterly loyal. Although his own organs -- not that they are his -- irritate him in their ability to betray him on occasion.

He watches her, then closes his eyes and nods.

"Tali," he says politely. "Do as you need to."

Tali nodded in response, holding her arm up closer to him as her omnitool ran a diagnostic on his organs, paying special attention to his mechanical heart and lungs. For the most part, everything seemed to check out; whoever had replaced Thane's organs certainly had admirable workmanship, she couldn't help but think.

"How has the firewall been working? Has it kept Hypatia's signal from finding you?"
