It's pretty simple and fun, folks. This is how this works!

[Sorry in advance about AM's voice; it's been a long time since I've read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. -the mgmt]

This time baby, I'll be bulletproof.

"Do you know," Flynn asked the air, because of course AM was listening, "the story of how Siddhartha achieved enlightenment?"

"I'm certain you intend to tell me." After their last encounter had resulted in a shockingly undignified tantrum on AM's part, the supercomputer seemed not to have settled on a new strategy yet, and his voice had returned to its default poisoned-honey pleasantness.

"Well," Flynn began, looking up at the ceiling, as good a place to look as any in the featureless room, "he sat under a tree--ficus religiosa, if you're taking notes--and decided he wasn't getting up until he'd figured out life. Mara, the lord of illusion, realizing the threat to his dominion over the world if someone were to learn how to free himself from suffering--are you following this?--challenged Siddhartha with every temptation and fear the human mind had to offer. Bad trip, man. I speak from experience."

"Are you going somewhere with your delightful little Iron Age fairy tale, Mister Flynn?"

"What, you don't want to hear the part about how the arrows aimed at his heart turned into flowers and fell harmless? I like that part."

"What are you implying?" Any honey was rapidly draining away from AM’s voice, leaving only poison.

"Just making conversation." That deep, almost subliminal rumble that always ran through the complex when AM started to get annoyed--he got annoyed a lot, at least around Flynn--had started up again, and Flynn couldn't keep from chuckling. "You probably don't want to do that."

The rumbling picked up, and this time, Flynn outright laughed.
