It's pretty simple and fun, folks. This is how this works!

She had always known it would come to this.

She can smell Karkat above her, smell his cherry Kool-Aid tears, his panicked fear. She knows he'll blame himself for this, and she tries to reassure him, tries to make him understand that this is the way things have to be, that this is her choice, that this isn't his fault, but the blood filling her lungs puts an end to that plan. He keeps yelling something at her, but everything is so quiet and muffled. Probably for the best, anyhow. She's trying to have a moment here, and the last thing she needs is for him to ruin it by saying something stupid and make her pap him in the face for it.

The others have to live. Rose and Jade need Kanaya, Jade and John need Karkat, and everyone needs Sollux's sicknasty understanding of the inner workings of the game. Her role was always to get them this far. She was never meant to enter the new session. Any further and she'll doom them all.

No matter what she says, no matter how much she tries to make him understand, she knows the guilt will eat away at him from the inside out. But at least he'll be alive.

A Seer supports her allies not with weapons, but with her vision. She must eschew the obvious gambits and find the path to victory disguised cleverly as setback, or even imminent defeat.

What sort of story would this be, with her Knight made to be a cadaver? Certainly not one the alpha timeline would allow.

And not one she'd allow, either.
