the song drabble meme

It's pretty simple and fun, folks. This is how this works!

( 01 ) Have a playlist ready! Don't use all your songs--try and narrow it down a little.
( 02 ) Let everyone know how many songs you're working with. Also, which characters you would be willing to write about.
( 03 ) Others tag your post, picking a character or pairing or friendship or familial relationship or whatever, and then choose a number from your list.
( 04 ) Write a drabble related to that song, using that/those character(s)!

Take as long as you need; there's no time limits here!
And here's some helpful HTML to make it pretty!

I wanted to write something light-hearted, but the song is rather melancholy. Also I'm kind of a fan of random introspection.

Garrus and Parker - U2, "The Unforgettable Fire"

When he'd first arrived on the station, Garrus had never expected his stay to be very long - especially after Shepard had arrived. They'd be gone in a week. Two, tops. Back on their crazy mission to save the galaxy.

Obviously, that hadn't happened. Days had turned to weeks to months to years and it seemed like they were going to spend the rest of their lives on the station, fighting against Hypatia or trying to unravel the mysteries until old age finally caught up to them.

But when Garrus thought about what he'd found here - Shepard (again), a new-found sense of purpose, a woman he thought of as almost-a-sister - and thought of what he'd left behind (depression, a sense of impending doom, of failure, of never being quite good enough), maybe it had been worth it.

Besides, back home he wouldn't be trying to coax Parker out of her favorite bit of vent with promises of ice cream and really, he wasn't going to tell Shepard about the incident that had ended up with the kitchen absolutely totaled, he promised.

Yeah, he probably wouldn't trade that away.

bawwww I love it. ♥ Parker will do her best to keep Garrus from getting too melancholy, promise.
