When it's just Equius, on his own, Sollux is pretty okay with him. Might even begrudgingly like him. Yeah, he's a total asshole obsessed with the hemospectrum, but...he doesn't try to actually cull anyone lower than him, he's a hard worker, and he is really super good to Nepeta (who Sollux doesn't have any particular feelings beyond acquaintance and "sure she's ok" for, but still thinks she's a sweetheart and probably the most vulnerable of the bunch besides Tavros). Sollux can dig that. He's also better with the actual making of machines than Sollux; Sollux can build things and often has because he tends to think people are morons, but his true joy is in how machines work, not how they're built. Equius is the complement to that - he knows how to put this shit together even better than Sollux, which would also make it more capable of doing whatever he programmed it to do. Sollux thinks sometimes that if they teamed up, there's really not much they couldn't do together. Equius is weird and an asshole, but that could also describe all of Sollux's friends, and he's all right otherwise.

Put Aradia in the picture, and all of that blows up on itself.

Sollux can't stand Equius' treatment of Aradia. For one thing, he's super creepy over her and gets way overexcited about every little scrap of attention she throws his way. For another...well. Headcanon that I've also worked out with Mekky says that Sollux and Aradia were flushed for each other but just didn't talk about it or ask "is this a thing" ever before her death. They'd hold hands, cuddle, maybe even kiss a little, but Sollux never got up the courage to actually ask her out. And then she died, which totally ruined Sollux - I think he was much like his blindself before her death - and that made him a little crazy, and then her ghost started IMing him, and that made him think he really WAS insane, because he had to be hallucinating it. He would have done a lot to have Aradia, his Aradia, back. Even just as friends. He wanted her to be okay again without being 0k, if that makes sense. And then Equius did bring her back, not because he actually cared about who she was but because he wanted her to be his kawaii uguu robot matesprit, and then she didn't really talk to Sollux for the rest of the game, which he could only assume was because Equius didn't want her to. She'd been his best friend before her death and had kept close contact with him after, but now that she was with Equius she couldn't even be Sollux's friend, and that did not sit well with him at all. Put all of that in a bowl and mix it up with the things Sollux doesn't like about Equius - the hemospectrum bullshit, the fetishes, the sweating and creeping - and you basically have one giant stew of resentment boiling over into righteous, vengeful anger.

He would be happiest if Equius just died and never, ever, ever came back within a hundred million miles of Aradia, please and thank you!!! Honestly his hatred is totally platonic, but if things keep going like this his urge to just totally wreck the guy will be so strong that they really will need an auspicetice.
