[And the song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbwwn_NJBUI).]

"I still don't know why we can't just use the teleporters."

Edward Dillinger, Jr. stood in front of the Kurzweil barracks with his arms crossed, glaring at the glowing instrument of death Sam Flynn called a motorcycle. (Lightcycle. Whatever. The only difference between the two terms was the difference between 'an extremely speedy way to commit a murder-suicide' and 'the abomination I am never, ever riding again', and Ed was perfectly happy to stay very far away from both categories.)

"Because it's probably not a good idea to use something traceable when you're trying not to be caught," Flynn pointed out, far too reasonably for someone leaning against a vehicle Dillinger had thought was fictional until a few weeks ago.

"Do you just make a habit of withholding potentially useful information from people?" Flynn actually looked thoughtful, so Ed did him a favor and cut him off before he could say anything characteristically idiotic. "Don't answer that. Besides, your bike is just as traceable as the teleporters--and possibly moreso, since the last time I checked the teleporters didn't leave trails of solid light behind them."

"The lightwall turns off."

"Well, that's reassuring."

"Our best chance of getting away from someone trying to hunt us down is to try and outmaneuver them in here rather than trying to flat-out outrun them by going district-to-district," Flynn pointed out, still sounding entirely too calm for someone discussing how best to avoid dying by driving at speeds in the triple digits.

"… and I guess if all else fails we could take the cycle into one of the teleporters and try to ditch 'em in one of the Garden Zones." he added, almost as an afterthought.

Was he suicidal?

"Are you suicidal--don't answer that." Ed snapped as Flynn opened his mouth to respond to a clearly rhetorical question for the second time in as many minutes.

Flynn just rolled his eyes and held out a spare helmet, practically shoving it into Ed's chest.

"Just get on the bike, Dillinger."
