Ten years later, humanity and the synthetic life on the station are at odds
Hypatia has inducted as many citizens of Sacrosanct into a private military and launched
an all-out war against organic life and the people of Asphodel.
Some were kept on the station as captives, some escaped down planet-side
to become part of the resistance, and countless others were re-purposed into
Hypatia's willing slaves.
Now, tensions are at a peak and both sides are preparing for a throwdown. Skirmishes break out on the station and planet. Many of Hypatia's prisoners have been freed, but many more have fallen to the clutches of reprogramming.
Where will you be?
How this works:
-If you are synthetic or part-synthetic, OR if you have special armor (Looking at you, Spartans, Troncast, EVERY ROBOT EVER) you are a target for re-purpose.
You can still have escaped down to the planet, but she'll be after you. Going to the station is dangerous, once you enter her wide-area-network you are at risk of being hacked
-If you are fully organic, you are either dead, kept prisoner and made to work on the station, or part of the resistance on Asphodel.
-Anything in-between? You decide. Be creative with this.
-Fill out the form below to give us an idea of what your character is up to, what happened to them etc. Thread with each other! RP it out!
-Also, bring in your extra journals! There won't be the same people on the station ten years from now! If you're planning to app someone, or just have something interesting lying around, toss them in!

Good thing he's gotten good at ignoring injuries until they can be tended.
"Yeah." He closes his eyes and remembers - it's hard to keep the memory fresh, it was so very long ago, but he pulls it up, their room with Jade's plants and their bunk beds and the two of them just kids sitting on the top bunk giggling instead of trying to go to sleep. "You didn't actually sleep in our room, you slept with your Daves. But you always stayed until I fell asleep. Got so I couldn't fall asleep if you weren't there, for a while."
He sighs, and opens his eyes. "What did she do to you, Jade? How-- How did she make you like this?" Maybe it can be fixed. Maybe, if they rescue her and cut off contact with Hypatia, and remove the programming, she'll be able to heal, and eventually be whole again, and not this shattered shadow of a girl John loves with all his heart.
He misses his sister.

And then he asks the question. The light falls from her hand as she twitches, because the memories are painful and she's glitching hard as her human part refuses to remember it. But it's a direct question, and her mind is programmed to answer. "I've been cut open lots of times brain surgery hurts, John and she hacked me and fix--f-- fixed me." She turns into the light, letting him see the back of her neck, the neural links that are embedded in her neck and down her back, directly into her spine. She's so small and fragile-looking; her tank top hangs off of her body like it was made for someone much bigger. Jade turns to face him again, pulling the shirt up a little to reveal the large, red scar that runs from the base of her neck to her navel.
"She cccccuts me open and looks for the secret of Space and it hurts and i scream, but no one comes for me. Her orders hurt me and I-- I I've killed myself before lots of times, it's punishment for disobeying. Sometimes it's just shutting my sight off, taking control of my body away from me, but I've hunganddrownedandelectrocutedandfallenoffofcliffs and because it's just heeeeroic or just i just pop back up and do it. Do it again.
"And I ha-- hate hate it so much I hate this life I hate myself but I will do what she says because she's my Mother and I love her."
Even though her eyes are mechanic, a few tears drip out anyway, trailing down her cheeks. And when she speaks again, it sounds completely human, with no trace of machinery or glitching anywhere. "John, I just want to go home. Or die, or something because I'm so unhappy."

Slowly (and a little painfully), he unfolds himself, stands up, and steps towards her, one hand held out like he's trying to soothe a wild animal. Hopefully she won't teleport or lash out if he comes closer.
"Shhh, Jade, shhh," he murmurs. He doesn't say they'll get her out of there, or rescue her, or anything like that, because there's enough programming in her that he's pretty sure half of her would flip out, but dammit how long has it been since someone touched her gently?
If she'll let him, he's going to rest a hand on her shoulder.

Jade freezes as he places a hand on her shoulder. There's a long time time before she speaks again. "...Please-- please don't hurt me, I'll be good I promise. I'll do whatever you say."
no subject
"You're my best friend. My sister. I love you, okay? Always will."

She's still frozen to the spot, unsure of what to do. His hand is touching her cheek and it's warm; her tears fall freely, though she isn't sure why.
"I loved you once. I think."
no subject
"Yeah," he replies faintly. "I think you did."
He moves slowly, gingerly, giving her plenty of time to push him away, but he wants to hug her right now. And if she kills him for it, so be it.
It's not like anyone knows he's here, anyway.

Slowly, carefully, she hugs him back. "This is how you hug your friiiiiiiends, r-right?"

It's kind of hard to believe it's really the girl who befriended him when he arrived, a version of the girl who sacrificed her dream self to save a boy she hardly knew.
He can't decide if he wants to say anything right now, he's a little afraid he'll set her off, say the wrong thing. He'll just hold her, for right now.

"We're friends," she affirms, voice extremely slow to prevent the glitching. Something about that word -- friends -- makes her body jerk subconsciously, like a warning sign. Something that shouldn't happen.
no subject
"Yeah." John can't bring himself to let go. Oh god, he can't believe she's still alive and this thin. "I'll be your friend until the day I die. No ifs, ands, or buts."

He doesn't even want to let go, to be honest. He wants to pull her down on his ratty little mattress, in his bare little room, and shooshpap her until rescue comes.
But he knows he can't. So he'll just hold her until she won't let him anymore.
