oh man oh MAN. york is about as uncomfortable around delta as delta is around her, mainly for the whole mutual "you're a little too close to someone who's gone" thing, but she really, really does want to get closer to him. not because he's any kind of replacement, because he's not, and she knows that -- but because he's someone's delta, and his york is gone, and even though d has wash, that doesn't mean york doesn't feel some misplaced sense of responsibility for him, like someone's got to look out for him and it may as well be her, even if delta's perfectly capable of taking care of herself. (besides, wash can't even admit he likes delta, and york's supposed to trust him to take good care of him? pffff.) and it might have a little bit to do with the fact that she failed to save her delta, and she doesn't want anything to happen to this one, either.

she's good at shrugging things off and going with the flow, and for the most part she uses that to smoothen what might be a bumpier ride between her and delta, but it really does eat at her that he doesn't fully understand what happened with her and her delta. it's data without context, and she can only explain so much. and maybe she's trying to make up for that, too, but even if they're never partners, even if he's always going to be someone else's delta and she's always going to be some other AI's york, she wants to be friends with him, and she wants him to be able to trust her, and every time it feels like they're getting closer to that, she's thrilled. and seriously, if anyone tried to fuck with delta, they'd have york to deal with too. shit's serious.
