This is all Amanda's fault :I

There is entirely too much trauma on this space station lately. Which means it's time for the

Broken Elevator Meme!

...Yeah.
  • Your character is riding on an elevator when - oh no - it breaks down and stops! How unexpected.
  • Oh look, someone else is in there with them. How about that.
  • That elevator isn't going to move until your thread amasses at least ten comments. MAYBE MORE.
  • Commence arguing/going stir-crazy/making out to relieve the tension/all of the above.
  • Agree to never speak of this again (and just use the stairs in future).

To achieve the correct atmosphere for this meme, I highly recommend these tracks. HAVE FUN~ :B

[B-but he just told her he doesn't know why.]

There does not appear to be a mechanical reason. Investigating possible software failure.

[she wants answers, Delta, not excuses]

[Sarah just closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She's waiting.

Patiently.

...Sort of.]
alaspooryork: (get a move on)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[aaaa stress]

Would you please remove the left control panel and check for a pattern of blue lights?

[He projects up a sequence of blue and white lights that, he thinks, they should display.]

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Sarah moves to do so alarmingly fast and without question. She stares into the wiring for a very long time before finally accepting what she sees.]

...they're not there.
alaspooryork: (i recommend caution)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
[There's one of his small electronic sighs.]

Understood. If pressed, do they light up? It is necessary to create this pattern to proceed.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[okay, she can deal with this. Deep breaths, Sarah.]

...some of them do.
alaspooryork: (as we fade)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent.

[He observes her for a few moments to see which light up.]

Thank you. I have determined the correct order - please deactivate all lights and inform me when you are ready.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[man you better be right about this, Delta]

Ready.
alaspooryork: (why do you ask)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
[It's been at least ten tags, it should work.]

Please follow this sequence.

[And he'll flash the lights in sequence slow enough for her to follow clearly, but quick enough that it's not insulting her intelligence.]

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Sarah follows the sequence carefully, looking as if she expects the panel to (literally) blow up in her face at any second.

When she finishes, she waits a beat, as if hoping the elevator will surge back to life immediately.

She just glances at Delta when it doesn't, wordlessly.]
alaspooryork: (sweatdrop)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh right, that's his cue.

He sends in some activation signals and it starts to rumble promisingly.]

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Sarah heaves a sigh of relief, pushing herself up to her feet.]

...thank God.

...It'll work now?

[finger poised over the button, waiting]
alaspooryork: (why do you ask)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
In theory, yes.

[He's better at fixing things than York, okay?]

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Sarah presses the button, apprehensively...and relaxes immensely when the elevator starts to move again, as if nothing at all had happened.]

Christ.

[there's a long, awkward pause.]

Uh.

Thanks.

[n-not quite looking at him]
alaspooryork: (get a move on)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It is nothing. My apologies that you were present for the malfunction. [Even if he had nothing to do with it.]

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Even Sarah knows that's not fair.]

...Not your fault.
alaspooryork: (about face)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[No worries, it's just his way of being polite.]

I will request a maintenance crew to prevent this from happening again.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[all the awkward fidgeting as the elevator slowly takes them to their destination. Sh-she was kind of being a jerk just now, wasn't she.]

...good.
alaspooryork: (i am here to assist)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[If Sarah knew Tex very well, she'd know Delta was perfectly used to jerks. Really, York was about the only one who ever treated him nicely.]

We will arrive shortly.

Thank you for pressing the buttons, Sarah.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sarah glances uncertainly in Delta's direction. Is he trying to be patronizing, or...]

I wanted to get things moving again as much as you did.
alaspooryork: (on treacherous ground)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Not really, he's just insubstantial in areas without a ton of projectors.]

Unfortunately, many systems appear to be designed to limit non-tactile functionality. There is little I may do on my own.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-22 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sarah just kind of grunts in acknowledgement, and tactfully doesn't share her opinion that maybe that's a good thing.

Not preventing Delta specifically from being to do much by himself, necessarily. But keeping AI in general from jumping into the computer systems and screwing around with them?

Yeah, she doesn't have a problem with that.]

...anyway, you didn't have to thank me.
alaspooryork: (as we fade)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[If there weren't tons of robo-bodies around for the jacking, that might actually be true. It was probably intended by the original residents to keep a modicum of control for themselves, but like everything it can be worked around.]

Acknowledged. However, York insists it is appropriate to express appreciation.

[identity profile] hows-the-knee.livejournal.com 2011-03-23 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Just this. (http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/106854744/30424514)]

...yeah, I'm sure he does.

[York would.]

You don't have to thank me for helping save my own skin, okay.
alaspooryork: (does not approve)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2011-03-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[And the elevator grinds to a halt, finally dinging on the appropriate floor.]

If you insist.
