But he didn't. So she wasn't.
Dave may be her matesprit, and they may draw dumb pictures and wear dumb fursuits and make dumb vigilante plans, but it's still Karkat that she trusts above all. She will come to him with problems she wouldn't admit to anyone else. She will allow herself to be actually be a little vulnerable around him. She honestly thinks he's a good leader despite his flaws and self loathing, because more than any of he other trolls, he cares. She would have killed Gamzee. She did kill Vriska. Karkat is the only troll who sought a peaceful solution to any of their problems.
I was talking last night about why I like Cobb and Arthur (bluh bluh Inception), and that's kinda how I see their dynamic. Karkat is the leader, the dreamer, the ones who comes up with the plans and gets shit done. It's Terezi's job to keep track of thedetails and make sure it all goes off without a hitch, whether by her own leadership skills or her Seer abilities. She's his pointman through and through, and she will always have his back.

Liara used to be a little uncomfortable around Ashley because Ashley wasn't afraid to mess with her and Liara doesn't have a fucking sense of humor. Years later, Liara has grown some social skills and can make it through a conversation without embarrassing herself (even if Ms. Paleontologist over here still doesn't know how to take a joke).
She doesn't really hold Horizon against Ashley -- she knows Ash is Alliance to the core, and if Liara hadn't been the one who delivered Shepard to Cerberus in the first place, she would have been suspicious, too. And it's not like Liara dropped everything to join up on a suicide mission, either. But she does kind of :/ when thinks about how undiplomatically the whole situation was treated. In any case, she knows Ash and Shep made up and hugged it out, so w/e w/e, it's none of her business.
She's pretty appreciative of how blunt and straight forward Ash is. I imagine it is ludicrously difficult to get a straight answer out of an asari, especially those embroiled in the power politics and information games that Liara has had to fuck around with for the last few years, and Ash is kind of a welcome change (as long as she isn't asking about asari sex).
Ash is crew, and Ash is original crew. She wouldn't take a bullet for her -- she'd make sure the bullet never arrived at all, whether by threatening/blackmailing the gunman or by biotic barrier.

She missed you, bro. He was one of her faves back on the original Normandy, someone she could actually talk to who wouldn't try to make her uncomfortable (Ashley) and who wasn't huge and intimidating and Wrex.
I'm sure I've said this before, but one of my absolute favorite things Liara has said about Kaidan was that she was comfortable around him when she first came aboard the Normandy because he was biotic, the implication being that she just couldn't really get used to the idea of beings who weren't able to throw people around with their minds. It must have been a huge culture shock, like you walk into a room full of people and they look like you and talk like you and you're maybe starting to get settled and then all of a sudden, what do you mean you don't know what purple tastes like??? And these people just cannot wrap their minds around that purple has this very specific flavor, and it's not even grape because god, what is even with your weird Earth human fruits, grapes don't even come close to tasting purple, they're more sort of a lightish yellow, and they just don't get this and it's weirding you out and then there's this one guy who's like, oh yeah, totally. You know what else is awesome? Red. Let's talk about that shit.
And then he went and died. :C
She's really glad to see him here, and if real life ever stopped punching me in the face she would definitely be trying to make up for lost time and watching him jog and being a giant creeper because that's her job, okay, she's trying to keep tabs on everyone and be a good Shadow Broker AND MAYBE THIS TIME EVERYONE HERE WON'T KNOW HER SECRET IDENTITY, GOD

BUT YES, ONCE LIFE LEAVES YOU ALONE, ALL THE MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME BIOTIC BUDDIES,
and also Liara, you're lucky you're not Batman, because the Joker would be fucking up all your relatives with how bad you are at keeping your secret identity.

why does cerberus know who you are
why does wrex know who you are
why does edi try to keep it a secret from shepard

Shep here is renegade, and it kind of weirds her out just a tad because her Shep was paragon. She walks like her, talks like her, looks and shoots and kills like her, but there's enough of a difference that it gets a little jarring. It's strange to hear "SHUT UP AND GET THE JOB DONE BEFORE I KNEECAP YOU" when you're expecting "FOR FUCK'S SAKE HUG IT OUT OR I SWEAR TO GOD I'M TURNING THIS CAR AROUND." But it's not like Liara has any right to say anything -- she was the one who threatened to flay someone alive with her mind if they didn't pay their debts to her in time. She knows the logic behind Shepard's attitude, and it gets results. Liara respects results.
(headcanon time: if Liara had come from a renegade universe, I expect she would have asked herself, what would Shepard do? and then followed the commander's example, much as Garrus had on Omega.)
Keywords relevant. She still has this huge fucking crush on Shepard I'm so sorry. But that's okay, so does like half the galaxy. She never said anything to her own Shepard, and she knows r!Shep had this weird thing going on with Kaidan and Garrus, so it'll never come up. She is classy and professional and knows better than to let it become an issue. But I don't think Liara will ever settle down with anyone, even after the Reapers aren't a threat anymore.
Shepard isn't her Shepard, but she still is Shepard, with all that entails. This is a person she respects and admires more than any living being in the galaxy. Not only would she follow her into hell, but she'd make a map of the place and plot out the best course to get to the devil so they could punch him out and take over for themselves so they could use it as a base against the Reapers.

You are the best.
(Also a;lskd WWSD is now part of my Liara headcanon. Damn.)
